On 10/16/2025 the LaPorte County Council had a special meeting regarding the 2026 Budget and opened it up for public comment. This meeting was in regards to a proposed .20% increase to the LIT (Local Income Tax) which was just increased in 2022 from 0.95% to .45%. A number of the County Council members were surprised that this was even mentioned, as they had not requested it. This breakdown is to address some of the rumors and misconceptions (and misinformation) that is circulating. Although we at #DDD were unable to attend the meeting in person, we did review the full meeting on Access LaPorte County and we're looking forward to jumping into this. There were a number of public comments, ALL opposed to this increase. Let's face it- the choices on our ballot are usually awful... A rich jerk with a well-known name, someone that's been in government since before many of us were born, and sometimes a seemingly crazy person that has recently made the news for something less than stellar are generally the options when you get into the voting booth. We can (and should) do better. Some of us consider running for office. Some of us even look into it a little and often go "oh no thank you" because it can seem daunting, complicated, expensive, and what are the odds someone that isn't establishment is actually going to win anyway? Good news! It isn't as complicated or as out of reach as they would like us to think. I ran for US Congress in 2020 despite having never run for office before. I also ran for State Representative in 2020 and 2024. Obviously there were unique challenges there, but I learned a LOT and I'd like to pass along that info to you. DDD Returns! How to Run For Office and Why YOU SHOULD
Hi everyone. It's been a bit hasn't it? Well, we are back! This is our test to make sure our audio, video, and lighting is okay and what upgrades/updates we need to do in order to dial it in to as close to perfection as we can. I'd love your feedback on video and audio, so join us. We're hoping to use this as a test, but also to fill people in on what's been happening (a LOT) and our journey to this point. We moved to LaPorte (no more Michigan City), did a LOT of work to our home, and we took a much needed vacation to visit with family and friends. This trip took us to several states, including (n no particular order) Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Lots of fun, lots of pictures, and some really awesome memories. The US Senate held their debate on March 14th, 2025. Both hearings will be presented here via timestamps. The entirety of both hearings is 16 hours!
